ACC Women's Soccer Championship

CARY, N.C. – Third-seeded Florida State clinched its fifth consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Soccer Championship, defeating fourth-seeded North Carolina 3-2 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina. Second-half goals from Taylor Huff and Wrianna Hudson led the Seminoles to victory.

This win extends Florida State’s unbeaten streak in the ACC Championship to 12 matches and marks their fifth straight title, the longest streak since North Carolina's five consecutive wins from 2005-09. The Seminoles have now won 11 ACC titles in program history, all within the last 14 years, and it’s the third straight championship for Head Coach Brian Pensky.

The five combined goals in this match were the most scored in an ACC final since 2018, when Florida State also defeated North Carolina 3-2.

The scoring began in the 31st minute when North Carolina was awarded a penalty, and junior Kate Faasse converted to give the Tar Heels a 1-0 lead. Florida State quickly responded: after a corner kick ricocheted around, Seminole freshman Taylor Suarez controlled it and fired a shot from just outside the 18-yard box to level the match at 1-1.

Just before halftime, Faasse scored again, heading in a cross from Bella Sember to give UNC a 2-1 lead at the break. This marked Faasse’s 16th goal of the season, tying her for the conference lead. The Tar Heels outshot the Seminoles 7-4 in the first half.

In the second half, Florida State earned a penalty in the 63rd minute. After consulting with teammate Jordynn Dudley, Huff took the shot and equalized at 2-2 with her 12th goal of the season. Momentum began to shift in Florida State’s favor, and just four minutes later, Dudley found Hudson inside the box, where she shook off a defender and fired in the game-winning goal in the 67th minute.

North Carolina managed only three shots for the remainder of the match and couldn’t find an equalizer.

Huff was named the Tournament MVP, having recorded two goals and an assist across the three matches in the 2024 Ally ACC Women’s Soccer Championship. She is the fourth different Seminole to win MVP honors in the last five years.
