South Carolina State Sweeps MEAC Tennis Championships in Cary

CARY, N.C. – In a dominant showing at Cary Tennis Park, South Carolina State University captured both the MEAC Women's and Men's Tennis Championship titles, extending their reign as the conference’s premier tennis program.

The Lady Bulldogs secured their sixth straight MEAC Women’s Championship with a 4-0 win over North Carolina Central, while the Bulldogs’ men’s team followed suit with a 4-0 victory of their own, earning their fifth consecutive conference crown.

Women’s Championship Recap:

SCSU set the tone early in doubles, with the No. 1 duo of Sofya Chursina and Hind Semlali overpowering NCCU’s top pair 6-2. The No. 3 team of Ashikha Amalnathan and Valeria Teran clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win.

Momentum carried into singles play, where Amalnathan won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4, and Teran followed with a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 6. MEAC Player of the Year Sofya Chursina sealed the championship at No. 1 with a 6-4, 7-5 win.

This marks SCSU’s 19th MEAC Women’s Tennis title under Coach Hardeep Judge, who was named MEAC Coach of the Year.

Men’s Championship Recap:

The Bulldogs claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. Aissa Benchakroun and Julius Augunas dominated 6-1 at No. 2, while Iliyas Maratuly and Ivan Pauliuchenka edged out their opponents 7-5 at No. 3.

In singles, Mikalai Bankou set the pace with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 1. Maratuly followed with a 6-2, 6-4 result at No. 5, and Benchakroun closed the match with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 3.

The title marks the 20th overall MEAC Men’s Championship for South Carolina State, further solidifying their legacy in the conference.
